From the time I was a little girl growing up in Rye, NY, I loved drawing and painting. I had my first art sale when I was 11 when a family friend paid $20 for one of my frog drawings. Creating has been my lifelong joy - I crave it everyday.
Though primarily self taught, I have studied at the Silvermine Art Guild in Connecticut and with prominent accomplished artists who inspired and encouraged me to show my work. I have been in exhibitions throughout the Northeast and sell my paintings to clients privately, at shows, and through designers.
Inspiration
I feel deeply connected to the coast and woodlands. Living in the sublime coastal communities of Rye, NY and Westport, CT, along with travel adventures provide boundless inspiration for my work. Moments that take hold in memory, my imagination, what I observe, and a myriad of experiences drives me to the canvas.
Nature is my muse, a metaphor for both the complexity and simplicity of life. Water, rocks at the jetty, the shoreline, marshlands, woodlands and gardens, create the most captivating inner dialogues. They all have a story to tell, drawing us into our own textured layers, at the same time taking us outside of ourselves. Here I am most centered. It's the spark that ignites me, gives me serenity, and so much inspiration.
Process
My painting process is sometimes carefully planned out, but mostly intuitive. It is meditative and exhilarating, thoughtful and spontaneous. It is all of these things! From the first marks on the canvas, I set off on a journey, always layered, like life - full of love and struggles, perseverance, big splashes of fun, and so many possibilities. Painting, scraping back, adding to the canvas, then the magic happens and the painting emerges. I strive to evoke emotion or transport you to another place through color, shape and line, using acrylics, ink, graphite and other mediums. For me, art is an "evolutionary" process - I love exploring and experimenting using different techniques. Running the spectrum of the known and unknown - that is the adventure, and is pure joy.
